Taunton River Guided Tour
Paddling Back in Time along the historic Taunton River.  Over the past 20 years, the Taunton River has become one of the significant tributaries in America.  An alliance of citizens founded in 1988 to restore, protect, and preserve this historic waterway for the well-being of all generations for recreational pleasure was achieved when the highest award came in 2009.  The Taunton was designated one of only 12 U.S. National Wild and Scenic Rivers.  Flowing through 43 cities and towns, it is the second largest watershed in Massachusetts with tributaries including the Nemasket, Town, Winnetuxet, Mill, Three Mill, Segreganset and Assonet Rivers.   With 27 different habitat types including some globally rare wildlife such as otters long-eared owl, herring, Atlantic sturgeon, pale green orchids and grasshopper sparrows, each turn brings a new vista.  River awareness comes alive as you glide smoothly and quietly down the Taunton. There are no portage carry-overs necessary to explore its full length.  As part of The Wampanoag Commerative Canoe Passage used to migrate from Scituate to Dighton Rock in Berkley, you will pass numerous historic industrial sites, a vast variety of foliage and spectacular views of woodland, sky and open water.
